Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
Do you offer a warranty on repairs?
Yes. Through the NAPA AutoCare program we offer the Peace of Mind Warranty: 24 months / 24,000 miles of parts-and-labor coverage on qualifying services and repairs, honored at NAPA AutoCare Centers nationwide. Use your NAPA card and get an extra year of coverage. Not every service or vehicle qualifies - ask us whether your repair is covered.
Are your technicians certified?
Yes. Quality Mechanics is a NAPA AutoCare Center with ASE-certified technicians - from lube techs to advanced diagnostic techs to heavy diesel techs, each plays an important role in taking care of your vehicle or equipment.
Do I need an appointment, or can I just stop by?
You are welcome to call ahead or stop by the shop. Calling (254) 829-5054 first lets our team confirm current availability and make sure the right technician and any needed parts are ready for your visit.
Will I get an estimate before any work is done?
Yes. After we evaluate your vehicle or equipment, we explain what we found and discuss the recommended work with you before proceeding. You decide how to move forward once you have the information.
What types of vehicles and equipment do you work on?
Quality Mechanics works on cars, trucks and SUVs, diesel pickups, commercial and fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and agricultural machinery. We also fabricate hydraulic hose assemblies. If you are unsure whether we can help with your specific vehicle or machine, call us and we will let you know.
Where is Quality Mechanics located?
We are located at 8575 Gholson Road, Waco, Texas 76705, north of central Waco. If you need directions from your area, call us at (254) 829-5054 and we will help you find the shop.
Can I drop my vehicle off?
Yes, drop-off is available. Call the shop to arrange the details so we know when to expect your vehicle and have your contact information and a description of the issue.
Do you work with commercial and fleet accounts?
Yes. We work with local businesses that operate work trucks, commercial vehicles and equipment. Call the shop to discuss your fleet and how we can support it.
What should I bring or have ready when I come in?
A clear description of the symptoms helps: what happens, when it started and under what conditions. For equipment or hose work, the make, model and serial number are useful. Photos of the problem can also help our team prepare.
Do you diagnose problems before recommending repairs?
Yes. We evaluate the vehicle or equipment first so recommendations are based on what we actually find, not guesses. We then walk you through the findings and your options.
Can you look at a problem another shop could not figure out?
You are welcome to bring it to us. Every situation is different, so we start with our own evaluation. Any records or notes from previous visits elsewhere can help us get up to speed faster.
Fleet & Commercial
Can you maintain our company work trucks?
Yes. Quality Mechanics services work trucks and commercial vehicles for area businesses, from routine maintenance to repairs. Call the shop to talk through the vehicles you run and what they need.
Can you help us set up a maintenance schedule for our fleet?
We can discuss a maintenance approach based on your vehicles, how they are used and the manufacturer service schedules. Call us to go over your fleet and workload so the plan fits how your business operates.
Do you service diesel trucks?
Yes, we work on diesel pickups and commercial diesel vehicles, including diagnostics and repair. Let us know the make, model and symptoms when you call so we can point you in the right direction.
How do we get an out-of-service vehicle back on the road quickly?
Call the shop as soon as the vehicle is down with a description of the problem. Timing depends on the diagnosis, parts availability and shop workload, so we cannot promise a turnaround in advance, but early information helps us plan the work.
Do you keep service records for fleet vehicles?
We document the work we perform, and those records can support your own fleet maintenance tracking. Talk with us about what documentation your operation needs.
Can one shop handle both our trucks and our equipment?
That is a common reason businesses work with us. Quality Mechanics handles commercial vehicles, heavy equipment and hydraulic hoses, which can simplify things for operations that run all three. Call to discuss the mix of vehicles and machines you operate.
Heavy Equipment
What kinds of heavy equipment do you work on?
We work on construction and agricultural equipment such as skid steers, excavators, loaders and tractors. If you have a specific machine in mind, call us with the make and model and we will confirm whether we can help.
My machine is showing a fault code. What should I do?
Write down the exact code and note what the machine was doing when it appeared. Avoid continuing to operate if the machine is derating, overheating or leaking. Call the shop with the code, make, model and hours so we can advise on next steps.
What information should I have ready when I call about equipment repair?
The make, model, serial number and hour reading, plus a description of the symptoms and when they occur. Photos or video of the problem can also help our team understand the situation before you bring the machine in.
Can equipment be brought to your shop?
Yes, equipment can be delivered to our shop at 8575 Gholson Road in Waco. Call ahead so we know it is coming and can discuss unloading and the work needed.
How often should heavy equipment be serviced?
Follow the manufacturer service schedule in your operator manual as the baseline. Harsh conditions such as heavy dust, high heat or long duty cycles can justify more frequent checks. We can discuss an approach suited to how your equipment is used.
Does Texas heat require any special care for equipment?
Sustained heat works cooling systems and hydraulic fluid harder, so keeping radiators and coolers clean, watching gauges and checking fluid condition matter more in summer. Consider an inspection before the hottest months rather than after a problem appears.
Hydraulic Hoses
Can you manufacture hydraulic hoses at your shop?
Yes. Quality Mechanics fabricates custom hydraulic hose assemblies at our shop on Gholson Road in Waco. Bring the damaged hose or your hose specifications and we can build a replacement to match the application.
Can you come to my equipment to replace a hose?
We offer mobile hydraulic hose service for equipment that cannot easily be moved. Service timing depends on technician availability, location, hose configuration and parts availability. Call the shop to confirm current availability.
What is the largest hose you can make?
We currently manufacture hydraulic hose assemblies up to 1-inch inside diameter. Contact us with your hose information so we can confirm the application.
What brand of hose and fittings do you use?
We fabricate replacement hose assemblies using Kimball Midwest hydraulic hose, fittings and crimping equipment, subject to hose size and application. We currently manufacture hydraulic hose assemblies up to 1-inch inside diameter.
Can you remove the old hose and install the new one for me?
In many cases, yes — our technicians can handle removal and installation as part of the job. Whether that is practical depends on the machine and the hose location, so describe the situation when you call and we will confirm what we can do.
What equipment do you make hoses for?
We mainly work on CAT, John Deere, Bobcat and domestic brands of heavy equipment, and we can service hydraulic hoses on most brands. We service hose applications on many types of equipment - excavators, skid steers, loaders, backhoes, tractors, trucks and attachments - subject to hose size, fittings, application requirements and parts availability.
Should I bring the damaged hose with me?
Yes, whenever possible. The original hose is the best pattern for length, fitting types, fitting orientation and hose size, which helps us match the replacement correctly. Cap the open ports on your machine to keep contamination out while the hose is off.
What information do you need to make a replacement hose?
The most useful information is the hose inside diameter, overall length, the fitting type and size on each end, the fitting orientation and the pressure rating, along with the machine make and model. If you are unsure of any of these, bring the old hose and we can measure it.
Can I send photographs before coming in or requesting service?
Yes, and it helps. Clear photos of both hose ends, the fittings, the hose routing on the machine and any markings printed on the hose give our team a head start on identifying what you need. Call the shop and we will tell you where to send them.
Do you carry every fitting in stock?
Fitting and hose availability depends on the application. Sending photographs and equipment information before service can help our team evaluate what may be required.
Can you make a hose while I wait?
It depends on the hose configuration and parts availability at the time, so we cannot promise while-you-wait service in every case. Call the shop before you head over and we can confirm what is realistic for your hose.
Do you offer after-hours hose service?
Service timing depends on technician availability, location, hose configuration and parts availability. Call the shop to confirm current availability.
How far will your mobile hose truck travel?
Mobile service range depends on technician availability, location, hose configuration and parts availability. Call the shop to confirm current availability for your location.
Can you repair a leaking hydraulic hose?
Hydraulic hoses are not patched or spliced — a leaking hose is replaced with a new assembly built to match the original. Attempting to repair a pressurized hose is unsafe and unreliable, so replacement is the standard practice.
Should a damaged hose be repaired or replaced?
Replaced. Industry practice is to replace damaged hydraulic hose assemblies rather than repair them, because a compromised hose cannot be trusted at operating pressure. We fabricate a new assembly matched to the original specifications.
Can I keep operating my equipment with a leaking hose?
No. Shut the equipment down safely and relieve pressure — a leaking hose can fail completely without warning, and escaping hydraulic fluid under pressure is dangerous. Never feel for a leak with your hand; a pinhole leak can inject fluid through skin, and any suspected injection injury needs immediate medical care.
Truck Upfitting
Do you install truck lift kits?
Yes. Quality Mechanics installs suspension lift kits on pickups and SUVs at our shop on Gholson Road in Waco. Send us your truck’s complete information and we will confirm which systems fit before any work is scheduled.
Do you install leveling kits?
Yes. We install leveling kits that raise the front of the truck to reduce factory rake. We will also talk through how a leveling kit interacts with towing and hauling before recommending one for your truck.
Which lift kit brands do you install?
We install products from several leading manufacturers, including ReadyLIFT, BDS Suspension, Air Lift and Ranch Hand, subject to product availability and vehicle fitment.
Do you install ReadyLIFT products?
Yes, we install ReadyLIFT leveling and lift products, subject to product availability and fitment for your specific truck. Send us your truck’s details and we will confirm which ReadyLIFT systems apply.

Yes, we install Air Lift air-helper spring systems for trucks that tow and haul, subject to product availability and vehicle fitment. We will confirm which systems fit your truck and how you use it.
Do you install onboard air compressors?
Yes. Many air-helper spring installations can be paired with an onboard compressor kit so you can adjust pressure from the cab. We can review compressor options along with the air springs when we confirm fitment.
Do you install Ranch Hand bumpers?
Yes, we install Ranch Hand grille guards, front replacement bumpers and rear bumpers, subject to product availability and fitment for your specific truck.
Do you install both front and rear bumpers?
Yes. We install both front and rear replacement bumpers as well as grille guards. We review your truck’s sensor and camera equipment before ordering so accommodations are confirmed up front.
Do you install hideaway gooseneck hitches?
Yes. We install gooseneck hitches, including hideaway systems that leave the bed floor flat when the ball is removed or stowed. We can also handle the trailer wiring connector as part of the installation.
Will my truck need an alignment after a lift or leveling kit?
In nearly all cases, yes. Changing ride height changes steering and suspension geometry, so an alignment is a normal part of a lift or leveling installation. We evaluate alignment needs with every suspension installation.
What tire size will fit after a lift?
Tire fitment depends on the exact truck, suspension system, wheel dimensions, wheel offset, tire dimensions and intended use. We must review the complete setup before confirming fitment.
Will a lift kit affect my factory warranty?
Warranty questions should be discussed with your vehicle manufacturer or dealer, since warranty coverage is between you and them. What we can do is explain exactly what an installation involves — the components affected and the work performed — so you can have an informed conversation.
Will a heavy bumper affect my suspension?
A heavy replacement bumper adds weight to the front axle, which can affect ride height and suspension behavior on some trucks. We can evaluate your front suspension and discuss options such as leveling or suspension support as part of the bumper installation.
Do air bags increase my truck’s payload capacity?
Air-helper springs can support the rear suspension and help manage loaded stance, but they do not increase the truck manufacturer's payload, axle, tire, hitch or gross vehicle weight ratings.
Can you upfit an entire commercial fleet?
Yes, we work with businesses that run multiple trucks and can coordinate consistent upfits across a fleet. Ask us about fleet arrangements and we will discuss how to structure the work around your operations.
Do you provide both parts and labor?
Yes. We can source the products and handle the complete installation, so fitment, parts and labor are coordinated through one shop.
Can I supply my own parts?
Our policy on customer-supplied parts is being finalized. Call the shop at (254) 829-5054 to discuss your situation and we will let you know what we can do.
Do you offer warranties on the products you install?
Product warranty terms vary by manufacturer and by product. Ask us about the specific products you are considering and we will point you to the manufacturer’s warranty information that applies.
How long does installation take?
Installation time depends on the vehicle, product, parts availability and any alignment, wiring or calibration requirements. We will provide scheduling information after confirming the complete installation.
